Gabriela yawned and shut off her alarm clock. Another day, another newspaper. And with a new newspaper comes new reports of all of the dark happenings all over the world. She walked into the bathroom and went about her morning routine. Her wand was sitting on the counter top and she picked it up then flicked it and muttered a spell. Her bathroom was alive with activity. The curling iron plugged itself in, the hair dryer plugged itself into an outlet, and her comb, hairbrush, and hair products all stood by until she was finished with her shower.
While she sat down and let the hair products do their thing, she did her own makeup. Makeup was pesky to control with magic. It took concentration and patience and she had neither. So while her hair was being done by magically controlled hair products, her makeup was being done with her own two hands. When she was in school, she would have never made it to class on time without the aid of her magic. Finally her hair and makeup were finished and by now she was wide awake.
She left her bathroom and went straight to her kitchen, once again flicking her wand and saying a spell. This time the kitchen came to life with magic. Frying pans heated themselves up, the coffee made itself, the eggs cracked themselves and threw themselves into the frying pan. The bread toasted itself, the turkey sausage cooked itself, the oranges juiced themselves and the toast buttered itself. And by the time Gabby had sat down at the dining room table, coffee in one hand and The Daily Prophet in the other, her table was neatly set with her breakfast and a cup of orange juice right in front of her. Then she flicked her wand and the kitchen cleaned itself. Gabby loved magic.
She read the headline on the newspaper.
"More dark wizards captured." She sighed. "I know that should be a good thing, but it's concerning me that there are still so many around." She said aloud. She finished her coffee and began eating her breakfast. She was going to have to leave for work soon and she might as well get her energy up before then. She finished her breakfast off with her orange juice and them put the dishes into the dishwasher. She did occasionally like to do things the muggle way. She closed her eyes and thought of the Ministry of Magic and then a pop and she was outside of an old phone booth. She preferred the visitors entrance as opposed to the employee entrance where she had to flush herself down a toilet. She typed a number into the dial pad. The welcome witch didn't need to give her a badge, because Gabby had long since made this a habit. She felt the telephone box drop down as if it were an elevator and after a minute or so, she was in the atrium belonging to the Ministry of Magic. She went off to one of the elevators and pulled the lever. Once the elevator was at level two of the ministry, she got out and went into her little office.
She peered at the paperwork on her desk. There were reports to write and paperwork to fill out, but no jobs. She hated the paperwork part of her job. Gabby was more interested in the action. But then again, it was better than standing guard at Azkaban with the higher ranked Aurors. Then she would never get out to do things. She sighed and began her work. This was one of those times where she really wished that the ministry had computers. But the magic was too strong here for any muggle electronics to work unless they were bewitched to work. By the end of her shift, she was going to have a very cramped hand. So she decided that filling out the paperwork first would be the best choice she could make. Especially with three reports due ranging from 25 to 60 pages in length.
By the time she was finished with all of the paperwork, it was her lunch time. Now when it came to lunch, the aurors could either take an hour break and go somewhere, or eat at their desk while working. Gabby preferred the second option because it meant she got more work done. And all three of these reports were due by 9:00 that evening. She knew she was going to be staying at work late. Oh well, it was overtime and more money. One of her coworkers decided that he was going to buy everyone some lunch so Gabby gave him some money and asked him to buy her lunch, dinner, and also some snacks.
"Staying late again?"
"You know it." Her coworker nodded and left was he collected everyone's orders and money and Gabby continued her work. She had a bewitched refrigerator under her desk where she kept cold drinks and leftover food to eat during work. She had a license for it and it made her life easier. She reached down and grabbed a drink without actually knowing what it was. She kept all kinds of drinks in there, muggle and wizard alike. She knew for a fact that she had some pumpkin juice and butterbeer as well as Dr. Pepper and freshly squeezed orange juice, among other things. She also liked to shop at farmers markets on her days off and had some canned fruits, vegetables, and meats if she needed a pick-me-up while working late. The fridge was enforced with a freshening spell so that her leftovers and things would always stay fresh. The orange juice she had in there had been juiced at least a month ago and was just as fresh as it was when she put it in.
She looked at the drink that she took out of her fridge and noticed that it was Dr. Pepper. She shrugged and opened it then took a sip and set it down. She did need some more caffeine. That coffee didn't do it for her this morning. After awhile, her coworker came back with everyone's orders. Gabby put her snacks and dinner in her fridge and picked at her lunch while she worked. Her reports were about her most recent dark wizard captures. But they had been so close to each other that she didn't have time to write her reports right after the captures like she usually did when they were still fresh in her mind. But her captures were one right after the other. No sooner had she come back than she was off on another one. The less experienced aurors ad to work harder now that the more experienced ones were guarding Azkaban. She took a long drink of her Dr. Pepper and ate more of her lunch. She had finally finished her first report. She had an owl standing by to deliver the reports as she finished.
After a long while, she had finally finished her second report, strapped it to her owl, and discarded her empty lunch, and then decided to take a short break. It was 6:00pm and only a few of her coworkers were left. They were also finishing up some of their own work. When her owl returned, she had a scroll tied to her feet addressed to Gabby. Gabby took the scroll and opened it. She sighed when she read it. She was due for another job by the end of the week. It was Thursday and she was scheduled to leave by Saturday. She crumpled the scroll into a ball and tossed it in the waste bin. Well, she was complaining about being bored earlier. She took her dinner out of the fridge and, although cold, it tasted really good. While she ate her dinner, she began working on her final report. After the report was finally finished, she rolled it up, gave it to her owl, and finished her dinner. She was too tired to go home and considered just sleeping at her desk. She sighed and cleaned up her desk then signed out of work and apparated home. She didn't even bother doing anything, just laid down in bed and fell asleep.
